Author Visits

Antony Lishak is a children’s author who has visited numerous schools around Britain performing his work and talking about the craft of writing to children across the Primary age range. As a teacher with almost 20 years’ experience he is able to draw parallels between his own work and the writing that children do in class. By demystifying the whole process he fires children’s enthusiasm to try for themselves!

These are the fifteen most recent schools that Antony has visited.

What he does… Antony endeavours to involve as many children as possible and will adapt his presentations to suit the needs of the school. He is happy to work with small groups, whole classes or to do entire key-stage presentations.

For early years and key-stage one children he gives a highly interactive performance of some of his work. Everyone gets involved with telling the story and joining in with the rhymes and the actions. The children get to see how a book is made and take part in follow up workshops that are carefully designed to link in with what they have seen and heard in the presentation.

For key-stage two children Antony traces the growth of a book from it’s very first scribbles on a piece of paper to the moment it falls off the printing press. He explains how he uses his own experiences as starting points and talks to the children as authors, drawing parallels between the re-drafting that he has to do and the re-working that children are asked to do in class. He will also lead follow up writers’ workshops that are directly linked to the presentation.

Antony usually spends one day in a school but he is willing to spend longer, depending on the type of work you would like him to do with your children.

Pre-visit activities

Children don’t have to wait for Antony’s visit for the fun to begin. He has developed highly motivational and interactive on-line
activities for children to access, designed to help them prepare for the day.

Antony has developed some enjoyable on-line activities designed for both infant and junior children to do before he visits your school. All children can create their very own characters using “The Facemaker Machine” as well as adding pictures to one of Antony’s poems. There’s also a junior quiz about Antony and his books, along with specially created research resources, that will help children to prepare for the day… Click here to see these activities for yourself…
