Row Your Boat
Publisher: Dorling Kindersley Ltd

Animals row, drive and even fly in this delightful adaptation of the classic nursery rhyme. With pop-ups and pull-tabs on every page, children can activate each animal as they read the rhyme, too.

The words of Row Your Boat are -

Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream.

Drive, drive, drive your car
Gently down the street.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a treat.

Fly, fly, fly your plane
Gently in the sky.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Watch the clouds go by.

Drive, drive, drive your bus
Gently down the lane.
Stop to let some people out
And then set off again.

Float, float, float away
Gently in the breeze.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
High above the trees.

Blow, blow, blow them out,
Now you close your eyes,
Make a wish, lift the flaps,
A wonderful surprise!

For those who haven't seen it, it's about some animals who travel by boat, car, plane, bus and hot air balloon to Big Bear's birthday party. Over the years many children havemade up their own verses, for example -

Ride, ride, ride your horse,
Gently down the path.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is just a laugh.

Zoom, zoom, zoom away
Quickly up to Mars.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Dodging all the stars.

Ski, ski in the snow,
Racing down the hill,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Urgh, I'm feeling ill!

There are so many. But I have to admit that my favourite was -

Fly, fly, fly your pig,
Gently in the sky,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily
Can they really fly!

Why not get your class to make up their own verses? The wackier the better! Publish them on your school pages. Who knows, other schools may add them to their repertoire! Aren't you fed up with "...if you see a crocodile don't forget to scream"?
